Cesarean Section in Dubai

C-Section in Dubai - Dr. Vitali Petukhou
A Cesarean Section or simply C-Section is a surgical procedure in which the baby is removed through an incision in the mother's abdominal wall and uterus. This method is used in cases where Natural Vaginal Delivery poses a risk to the health of the mother or child. Cesarean section is the most common operation in the world.

A C-Section can be elective or emergency.

An elective Cesarean Section is performed for medical reasons before labor begins. Indications for its implementation may be, for example: transverse position of the fetus, placenta previa, twin pregnancy, the presence of a scar on the uterus after a previous C-section etc.

An emergency Caesarean Section can be performed both during pregnancy and during delivery, if complications develop that threaten the health and life of the mother. An emergency C-section is performed, for example, for placental abruption; acute lack of oxygen in the fetus (hypoxia or fetal distress), weakness of contractions that cannot be corrected with medications, umbilical cord prolapse, cephalopelvic disproportion, etc.

In addition, all indications for Cesarean are divided into absolute and relative.

When absolutely indicated, vaginal delivery threatens the life of the mother and/or child. For example, this is the transverse position of the fetus, placental abruption, acute fetal hypoxia, cephalopelvic disproportion, etc.

Relative indications are situations where vaginal delivery is possible, but with a high risk to the health of the mother or child. Often it is the combination of relative indications that is the basis for performing a cesarean section. For example, a relative indication is the breech presentation of the baby, i.e. situation when the baby did not turn head down before birth. In this case, childbirth can be carried out through the natural way, but it will be more risky and will require special manoeveurs or surgeries during delivery. The presence of a scar on the uterus after a previous cesarean section or myomectomy is also a relative indication. Vaginal Birth is possible, but the risk of uterine rupture will be higher, and the management of labor will require additional monitoring.

The surgery is performed in most cases under spinal anesthesia and sometimes under general anesthesia. After it, a certain recovery period is required. Although a Cesarean Section is considered a relatively safe procedure, like any surgery, it is not without risks and may require a longer recovery time than a Vaginal Birth.

I very often hear questions about how to choose the best hospital for Сesarean Section in Dubai or which Сesarean package is preferable? This is very important as it relates to the birth of your baby. You should take care in advance about choosing a best hospital and a doctor for a С-section. Pay attention to the experience and qualifications of your Ob/Gyn in Dubai. Be sure to visit the hospital to see the conditions and meet the staff.

As a doctor who regularly performs Caesarean Sections in Dubai, I can only add that we have everything necessary to perform these operations at any time of the day or night: the most modern operating rooms, the latest equipment and drugs, excellent anesthesiologists and neonatologists, excellent nurses and wards.

FAQ
  • Is it possible to have a Cesarean Section in Dubai at your own request?
Cesarean section in Dubai can be performed by the woman request without medical indications. It would be more accurate to say that a woman’s desire in itself is an indication. In the absence of other indications, a caesarean section will be performed at 39 weeks of pregnancy, after discussing all the risks.
  • Can the husband be present during a С-section in Dubai?
The possibility of a husband being present during a С section in Dubai is determined primarily by the policy of the hospital in Dubai and the consent of the doctors (anesthesiologist and obstetrician-gynecologist). Partner Сaesarean sections are not uncommon here and most hospitals support this practice for elective surgeries. In case of emergency surgery, partner С section is not usually practiced. As for the consent of doctors, I personally always welcome the desire of a couple to go through delivery together.
  • For what day after Caesarean are you discharged in Dubai?
Insurance companies usually cover a 3-day hospital stay, including the day of the caesarean section. If you do not have insurance and purchase a package from the hospital, it also includes 3 days in the hospital in most cases. Of course, if you want to extend your stay in the hospital, this can be easily done, but at an additional cost.
  • How much does a Cesarean Section cost in Dubai?
The cost of Cesarean section in Dubai may vary from hospital to hospital. Approximately 22,000 - 27,000 dirhams.
  • What are the risks of a Cesarean section compared to a vaginal birth?
Cesarean Section, like any surgery, has the risk of some complications. Compared to vaginal birth, there is a higher risk of bleeding, thrombosis and inflammatory complications. On the other hand, when performing a cesarean section, the risk of fetal hypoxia and injury to the pelvic floor muscles is lower.
